Several
years after Voyager returned home, a new stable wormhole was discovered
in the Beta Quadrant that led to a location deep within the Delta
Quadrant. This allowed Starfleet to establish a strong foothold in the
sector and forge new alliances, and make new enemies. The year is now
2406 and Starfleet has spent the last three years in a brutal war
with the Nukans, one of the fiercest enemies encountered to date.
Although Starfleet saw some success in the war the Nukans were much
more powerful and determined to eradicate all Federation presence in
the sector.
In the final campaign of the war the Nukans unleashed
thousands of attack ships on the Federation forces, wiping out
everything in their path on a push to take the wormhole and move into
the Beta and Alpha Quadrants. In a last desperate attempt to stop their
advance
the wormhole was destroyed with the bulk of the Nukan fleet inside,
ending the war but also cutting off the remaining Federation survivors
from their homeworlds and Starfleet Command.
Out of all the Starfleet outposts built in the Delta
Quadrant
only Starbase Avalon survived the devastation. The cost in crew and
resources was staggering, and without a connection to Starfleet
Command they now find themselves alone. New resources must be found,
new alliances formed, new command structures built, and all with the
hope that the Nukans truly are finished and that an even worse enemy
isn't waiting somewhere in the unexplored regions of space.
