The Star Trek franchise contains lots of model ships and Star Trek Collectibles. From the USS Enterprise models to the United Federation of Planets and the bountiful alien antagonist ships, the assortment of model ships offer Star Trek fans a great variety. Most of these models have faithful decals and their own exhibit stands. They are often made from die-cast metal and plastic and some even are outfitted with special effects and make great Star Trek Collectibles.

It appears most Star Trek model ship fanciers have at least one style of Enterprise ship and often times smaller vessels from the Federation s fleet. But many enthusiasts also favor those of the Federation s lesser-known adversaries. For instance in an early episode the Romulan Bird of Prey was one of the first ships that Trekkers saw up close. Later on the Romulan s appropriated a Bird of Prey design from the Klingons.

The Bird of Prey construction was armed with plasma energy weapons and a cloaking device and was initially seen in the original series episode “Balance of Terror. In this installment Romulans were testing the Federation across the freshly defined Neutral Zone. The Romulan Warbird was created by Andrew Probert and it was larger than the Federations largest Galaxy ships. This craft can be seen in the Neutral Zone installment of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

The Cardassians preferred a Galor-class battleship. Rick Sternbach {created~designed} this ship imitating wonderfully the resemblance of an ankh- the oval-topped cross often seen in Egyptian designs. Ultimately the ship especially feared was The Borg. Most Borg ships were unbeatable especially Borg Cubes.

The Cubes ships were things to appreciate. They didn’t have bridges, engineering sections or other concentrated areas that would open them up for overthrow in a battle.

Borg ships were first seen in the Best of Both Worlds episode in the Next Generation and then showed a totally new design in the Descent episode in TNG. When it was first displayed it fought the Enterprise-D under the command of Captain Jean-Luc Picard. The Borg Sphere was the ultimate Borg ship design. This ship was slighter than the others and used in Star Trek: First Contact as an getaway vessel.

As with any form of collectible from such a franchise like Star Trek you must be careful when buying. The real Star Trek Collectibles model ships are recognizable in that they have the Paramount copyright or trademark.
